A little more about me
Professional Qualifications
Having worked in a scientific role I embarked on an in-depth 5 year training to become a Psychotherapist. I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Theory and Practice from WPF Therapy Ltd, an accredited training organisation and clinic based at London Bridge.
Areas of Specialism
I have worked with adult males and females of all ages. Through my years working in industry I have an understanding of work-place difficulties such as redundancy, stress, burn-out and retirement. Many clients find their way to me because of emotional difficulties or relationship problems, unmanageable stress and anxiety or issues with parenting and the impact of divorce. I have had experience in a trauma clinic and had a position in an NHS Mental Health Trust for several years. At the moment I'm focusing on working in private practice.
Ethical Considerations
I am a member of two professional training bodies: The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). My work is bound by the ethical frameworks of all these organisations. For more information see useful links.
Further Training
As a requirement of membership of my professional organisations I 'm required to complete Continual Professional Development (CPD) every year. Recent courses have included broadening my understanding of couple dynamics, a course led by Tavistock Relationships. I have an understanding of how couples are unconsciously drawn to each other, how difficulties can arise and how to work with these. Whilst I don't currently work with couples, this allows me to address couple relationship issues that an individual might bring to therapy. I also completed an initial training in Mentalisation-Based Treatment at the Anna Freud Centre which has given me a skill set to promote effective mentalising in my clients. This has the benefit of improving self-reflection and deepening relationships with others. I also recently completed a 1 year Foundation Course at the Institute of Psychoanalysis.
